CP = (250 × 320) + 8,000 = ₹88,000

SP = 230 × 390 = ₹89,700

SP = (285 × 2,050) + (15 × 900)

= ₹5,84,250 + ₹13,500

A trader purchased an electronic appliance for ₹24,000. He spent 10% of the purchase price on transportation and installation. He then marked the appliance 40% above its total cost and offered successive discounts of 15% and 10%. Find his profit percentage.

⭐ Shortcut Method

Additional Expenses

= 10% of ₹24,000
= ₹2,400

Total Cost

= ₹24,000 + ₹2,400
= ₹26,400

Marked Price

= 140% of ₹26,400

After the first discount of 15%:

= 140% × 85%
= 119%

After the second discount of 10%:

= 119% × 90%
= 107.1%

So, the final selling price is 107.1% of the total cost.

Profit %

= 7.1%

= (400 × ₹1,500) + ₹20,000 + ₹12,000

= ₹6,00,000 + ₹32,000

= ₹6,32,000

Selling Price of 24 damaged kettles

= 24 × ₹800

= ₹19,200

Remaining kettles

= 400 − 24

= 376

Selling Price of remaining kettles

= 376 × ₹1,720

= ₹6,46,720

Total Selling Price

= ₹19,200 + ₹6,46,720

= ₹6,65,920

Profit

= ₹6,65,920 − ₹6,32,000

= ₹33,920

Profit %

= 5.37%

✅ Answer

5.37% Profit

💡 Shortcut Trick of the Day

Whenever an article is marked up and then multiple discounts are given, don’t calculate each price separately.

Simply multiply the percentage factors.

Example:

  • Markup = 50%
  • Discounts = 20% and 10%

Net SP Factor

= 150% × 80% × 90% = 108%

Therefore, Profit = 8% immediately.

This method saves valuable time in banking exams and reduces calculation errors.
