Percentage Factor Method
Instead of calculating each price separately, convert everything into multiplication factors.
- Markup 70% → × 1.70
- Discount 25% → × 0.75
- Discount 12% → × 0.88
- Discount 8% → × 0.92
Now multiply the factors directly:
1.70 × 0.75 × 0.88 × 0.92 = 1.03224
This means the Selling Price = 103.224% of the Cost Price, so the Profit = 3.224%.
⚡ Banking Exam Tip: Whenever a question has multiple markups or discounts, always use the factor method. It is much faster than calculating each intermediate price separately and reduces the chance of calculation mistakes.
