23% of CP = ₹2,760
CP = 2,760 × 100 ÷ 23
Answer
₹12,000
Question 84
Question
A trader sells two articles for ₹9,600 each. On one article he gains 25%, while on the other he loses 20%. Find the overall profit or loss percentage.

CP of first article = 9,600 ÷ 125% = ₹7,680
CP of second article = 9,600 ÷ 80% = ₹12,000
Total CP = ₹19,680
Total SP = ₹19,200
Loss = ₹480
Loss % = 480 ÷ 19,680 × 100

💡 Shortcut Trick of the Day
Reverse Profit and Loss Trick
In many banking exam questions, the Selling Price and Profit/Loss percentage are given, and you need to find the Cost Price. Instead of making lengthy calculations, use the reverse percentage factor method.
Example:
If an article is sold at 25% profit:
Selling Price = 125% of CP
So,
CP = SP × 100 / 125
If an article is sold at 20% loss:
Selling Price = 80% of CP
So,
CP = SP × 100 / 80
⚡ Banking Exam Tip: This shortcut is especially useful in questions where the selling price changes and the profit/loss percentage changes. It helps solve reverse calculation problems quickly in IBPS PO, SBI PO, SSC CGL, RBI Assistant, and LIC AAO exams.
